English in my life

Hello class!! This week I will discuss how my process has been at learning English. I think my experience in English at the university has been a loving - hating relationship because English has always been for me as a cruel ghost. Nevertheless, I’m in love with this course because I have met many people from other parts of the world, and share with several teachers. The reason of it is that I started from the first and most basic English course (English One).
Being more specific, there has been a relationship of hatred because the English course is very difficult for me. I cannot understand the instructions and I have very little vocabulary which gives me a very hard time when I work in the blog, but I try, and as the title of my blog I think we can do it! About the things I need to improve, let’s be honest: there are a lots of them. Now that I go to the university, I find it difficult to improve because I need more time, but wishing for the best I hope to devote more time to study and achieve someday a good understanding and speaking of this global language.
This semester I spent many time watching short documentaries in English to train myself for the listening exam. I also used my knowledge of the language to read a few articles for my thesis, and it was really useful.
Well, I think this being my last blog I want to spend my last words (hahaha joke) to thank my classmates who were very patient with me, and especially my teacher Belen Farias who accompanied me on 3 of the 4 levels of English, I wish you the greatest happiness in this new period of your life.

A big hug!

2014: Good and bad points

This year has been very interesting because I had to make my first professional practice, I' m finishing my last classes in anthropology, and I'v begun my thesis. In this point it has been a year of many challenges.
I think that in the professional practice there are a lot of good points and bad points. Nevertheless I think it was a good instance for learning.
I think one of the achievements that I value this year, is just finishing my subjects, my efforts of 5 years! About my thesis, It has been a very difficult and exhausting process, but in this research project I have had the opportunity to meet many interesting people.
My others projects in this year were teaching university workers in “Nivelación de Estudios Juan Gómez Millas” and endow the "anthropology Gender Line". Both cases has been very successful, I will consider a very good achievement, because in the case of  “Nivelación de Estudios“ the workers  have learned throughout the year in different areas, and we have been able to share this knowledge. On the other hand, in the case of the gender line, the situation is quite similar, I could share during the year with new people, knowledge and life experiences.
About things that are still outstanding, I am finishing English! hahaha this course is very difficult for me, and I think it is a challenge to achieve my degree in anthropology having as final fire test, the duty to speak English. But I'm in this fight, and I want to win!

Finally, I believe that despite all my stock of the year is positive, I hope yours too. Good luck!

El arte de amar

Well, today we should write about a free topic. Today I’m going to teach about “El arte de amar” by Erich Fromm, in my class with the workers of the university. I shall take this opportunity to review the lesson.

In his famous work “El arte de Amar” Fromm presents love as a skill that can be taught and developed. He rejects the idea of loving as something magical and mysterious that cannot be analyzed and explained, and is therefore skeptical about popular ideas such as "falling in love" or being helpless in the face of love. Because modern humans are alienated from each other and from nature, we seek refuge from our aloneness in romantic love and marriage. However, Fromm observes that real love "is not a sentiment which can be easily indulged in by anyone." In this argument the author sentence that the human’s not understand the love as an activity, or the power of the soul. On the contrary, the people think that of more important is to find a proper object.

In the next class, we’re going to review the third chapter of the book, the different ways of loving: a) brotherly love, b) Maternal love, c) Erotic love, d) self-love, e) Loving God. I hope that this class allows us to reflect on this paradox and initiate a productive dialogue about our way of relating. Well, and obviously I also hope that this content permits them to respond well their philosophy test.

How green are you?

In my opinion, home and school are the main places where people learn about environmentally friendly practices. My parents are children of small farmers; they have an important connection with nature. For that reason, we have always had a small vegetable garden in our house. I personally remember how, all time, they repeated to me and my siblings that we should not throw any paper or waste on the floor, and they also taught care of water, caring of garden, not playing with fruits and many others rules about environmentally friendly practices.
Everyday, I try to look after environment, but I don’t recycle the organic waste and I don’t separate trash as it should. About bicycling, I think it´s privilege of a few people, or people that work near to their house. In my case, ride a bike to traveling is not an option, because the place where I live is not really safe and, in any case, is too far from University.
Nowadays, I don´t participle in eco-organizations, because I really have no time to do it, but I would ever participate in any school permaculture. I think Permaculture is a political act that viewed from lower rates of carbon footprint to a sustainable development of life in many aspects.
If someone asks me what Santiago needs to be a city environmentally friendly, I would say everything!! Obviously, everybody has to contribute in this issue, and it is urgent to legislate emanation of gases from industries carefully, improve public transportation, among other things, to build a society friendly to environment.

My future job

I dream one day about teaching children in a rural school. I would like to create the Cultural Centre Violeta Parra in San Fabián de Alico, the place of her birth. Currently, I’m studying Anthropology but I think my true vocation is the pedagogy. I would like to work teaching and investigating in rural areas, contributing in the development of the community, particularly in the educational and artistic areas.
I can imagine listening every morning to the roosters crowing, and then walking to the school, it sounds great!! I can imagine organizing literary workshops with little groups, integrating people with different capabilities. I think that for achieving that objective I have to study a lot, because there are different areas of work where you need to specialize.
I don´t think I would travel abroad, maybe I could travel to study for a master's or postgraduate course I need to work in these projects, but this is not a priority for me. My principal motivation is to work in assisting poor people or rather discriminated people from my favorite activities such as teaching and investigating.
I hope that one day I can invite you to visit the Cultural Centre Violeta Parra in San Carlos.

A big hug!

My best holiday ever

It’s very difficult to me speak about my “best” holiday because I think in every great trip or little excursions there are unforgettable moments. However, I think my last holiday could fit into the category of the "best" because I spent a lot of time with my family; we traveled together to Chiloe. We were driving from Santiago with stops in different towns where we visited other family members. The beauty of the countryside it is very impressive and being with family it is more beautiful than any landscape.
In Chiloe we toured for different and beautiful towns, where we talked, danced, shared experiences, we talked and discussed a lot, it was great! I honestly do not remember the name of the places I visited because I have a terrible memory but landscapes, water colors, decoration of houses, food and of course the people are unforgettable.
We could say the wrong thing with this great trip was that Chile is a very expensive country, and renting cabins is wasteful everywhere, for this reason we were all together just renting a room, we slept a little uncomfortable but at lunchtime we spent everything we saved from hosting hahaha

I hope you liked my story, hugs.
